Making a difference

We strive to make a lasting positive impact to the people and community of Washwood Heath.

The impact of some of our projects can be found below.

Dolphin Women's Centre

From a survey of women who accessed education and training support at the Dolphin Centre in 2013 we found that:

  • 100% of women who had accessed support had increased confidence and were able to continue learning
  • 99 % made new friends and felt less isolated
  • 96% felt more confident to mix with people from different cultures and backgrounds.

Starfish Mentoring Programme for Children & Young People

We developed this project developed in response to the high numbers of children and young people from our community being excluded from school and the lack of early intervention services available to support them.

The Starfish programme provides one to one mentoring alongside Play and Positive Activities to support children aged 8 – 14 who are displaying emerging emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Based on data gathered from impact surveys for period September 13 - August 14 completed by children, parents and professionals we are able to evidence the impact the project is having on the children and young people as follows:

  • 83% of Children & Young People’s Confidence has increased A LOT since accessing the Programme.
  • 70% of Children & Young People’s Social Skills have improved A LOT since accessing the Programme
  • 61% of Children & Young People are A LOT more able to manage their feelings since accessing the Programme
  • 82% of Children & Young people feel A LOT more positive about the future since accessing the Programme
  • 67% of Children & Young people have improved their behaviour at school since accessing the Programme
  • The retention rate of children who continue to engage in weekly positive activities post the starfish programme is 79%.
