Environmental Projects

Community Environmental Activities

In collaboration with Friends of the Park we have been working to develop a range of community led environmental projects, these include:

Gardening and environmental programme: We are running an environmental studies programme for local women and introducing them to the benefits of growing their own produce, raising awareness of the benefits of recycling and creating sustainable green environments that impact positively on mental health and wellbeing.

Community Allotments: Women on our gardening and environmental programme and volunteers from the Dolphin Women’s Centre have been involved in maintaining raised beds at Ward End Park community allotments. From growing seedlings in poly tunnels to vegetables and fruit in raised beds, we hope to harvest our produce to be used within our community café.

Forest School: We have been working on reviving the forest school area to develop an oasis of nature that can be shared with local school children and community groups. The Forest School will act as an outdoor classroom and will provide much needed outdoor facilities for local schools.

Beehive Project: We are also working on developing a beehive project to introduce more bees into the local habitat, improve the pollination of our crops and produce local honey which we hope will be available through our community café.

Community Litter Picks: With support of our volunteers from the local community we are continuing to hold regular litter picks within the park, to ensure we keep our park as litter free and clean as possible. These activities bring local people together and help us to generate a sense of ownership and pride in our local community and to value our green space.
