Dolphin Women’s Centre

The Dolphin Women’s Centre is the heart of this area. Providing education, training, employment and health and wellbeing support to women in the local community.

The Dolphin Women’s Centre is based by the lake in Ward End Park, in the Washwood Heath area of East Birmingham.  An area with a rich diversity of cultures but which faces a significant number of social and economic challenges. Our services are designed to support women to overcome challenges and access a wide range of learning and development opportunities.

Take a look at our volunteering case study here.

What we do

Our services at the Dolphin Women’s Centre are driven by the women in our community, and tailored to suit their needs.

We provide a safe, and welcoming open-door service for women of all ages, faiths, culture’s and economic backgrounds, including those most vulnerable. We also work with partners to provide more specialist support for women with learning difficulties and mental health conditions, refugees and asylum seekers, and women who have experienced drug addiction, sexual exploitation, domestic violence or homelessness.

We continue to grow, learn and work together to provide a person-centred holistic service that puts women’s needs at the heart of our provision.

Our service delivery focusses on 3 main areas, Employability, Education and Training, and Health and Wellbeing.

What’s on

Every week, our friendly team provide a wide range of open sessions and regular activities for women in our community.

These take place in a safe and guided environment, either in the Dolphin Women’s Centre or in the lovely, light and welcoming Lakeside Cafe,  all part of Norton Hall Children & Family Centre charity.

Volunteering at The Lakeside Cafe, arranged by Dolphin Women’s Centre, gave me a chance to gain confidence in meeting new people and developing my skills in food hygiene, food preparation, money handling, serving customers, preparing day to day menus and cooking.

You can give your time when it suits you which meant I could volunteer around my busy lifestyle due to being a single parent. Shortly after volunteering at Lakeside Cafe, I was offered a part-time job that I really enjoy.
