CONNECTING COMMUNITIES WITH NATURE

Norton Hall Children & Family Centre is delighted to announce an exciting new environmental project centred around our fabulous local community of Ward End Park.

The Washwood Heath Adaption & Sustainability Hub (WASH for short) is a 5-year funded project to connect with nature, enable climate change action, and create more green jobs for local people.

WASH Project is made possible due to funding that has been awarded by The Climate Action Fund from The National Lottery Community Fund, and other donors, to whom we are deeply appreciative.

What’s it all about

The WASH Project allows us to develop a diverse range of events, outings and courses all centred around the environment and ‘green action’ but focused on our local area, and in particular Ward End Park and lake.

Based in our Dolphin Women’s Centre and with a vibrant hub in our Lakeside Café, the WASH will provide a welcoming space for you as someone who is equally passionate about the world in which we live and cares about our local environment.

We’re delighted to be partnering with Birmingham and Black Country Wildlife Trust, Friends of Ward End Park and New Leaf Sustainable Development to create all year round, inclusive and diverse, community-led activities as part of the WASH project.

What you can do

Through the WASH Project, you’ll have the opportunity to VOLUNTEER, GROW, LEARN and EXPLORE climate adaptation and the natural environment of Ward End Park.

From school holiday activities for children and families, to outdoor learning programmes for adults, through to trips out and regular volunteering in the Ward End Park flagship green space – the WASH Project has so much to offer You!

Who is it for?

We want to encourage local people living in the Ward End and Saltley neighbourhoods to come together and be proud of their communities.

Reducing isolation, inspiring new knowledge, and promoting care for the natural environment around us, we’re incredibly proud to be based in B8 and want it to B-Great!

Our thanks

Thanks to National Lottery players, Birmingham-based Norton Hall Children & Family Centre has received almost £600,000 over five years from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the UK.

The funding will be used to engage the local community in nature and climate learning activities, connecting them with the rural environment, increasing their connection to their surroundings and encouraging them to understand what it means to them.

Norton Hall Children & Family Centre will be working in partnership with organisations who share our organisational values, our passion for the environment and our commitment to improving lives.

Shaped by volunteers, service users and partners, the project hopes to see improvements in everyday lives, including food and growing skills, career opportunities, improved mental and physical health, and confidence building.
