Norton Hall

Dolphin Women's Centre

A place where women can come together, learn skills and make new friends

In 2012 Norton Hall acquired The Dolphin Centre at Ward End Park on a lease from Birmingham City Council. We are developing the centre to offer women in Washwood Heath a range of learning, employment and wellbeing activities. Read more about our new vision here

To date, the Dolphin Women's Centre has been used by over 500 local women for a variety of learning and leisure activities. Though the local Community Learning Trust pilot, we have started to develop a community café, the Tulip Cafe, managed and run by local unemployed volunteers.

The Dolphin Women's Centre offers:

  • Training and Education courses e.g. Pre-Entry ESOL, Entry Level Maths, Emergency First Aid, Paediatric First Aid
  • Employment support – job search skills, preparing for work, IT skills, CV writing, volunteering opportunities
  • Creative workshops e.g. hairdressing, beginners, make-up, mendhi
  • The Tulip Café
  • Health and wellbeing e.g. managing diabetes or heart conditions, anxiety and depression
  • Play & Stay Group - meet with other mothers and share experiences while children play (Thursdays, 10am-12pm)

For some courses we are also able to cover the cost of childcare (available to those in receipt of JSA. This does not affect your benefits).
